A lot of homeowners are sitting on usable backyard space they just can't access. Overgrown vegetation, uneven ground, tree roots - it all adds up to a side yard or rear run that's essentially wasted. That was exactly the situation here.
We came in with the Yanmar compact excavator and got to work clearing out everything that was in the way. Shrubs, stumps, roots, debris - all of it had to go before we could even think about grading. That's the part most people don't see, but it's the foundation for everything that comes after. Skipping it or rushing it means the finished surface won't hold up the way it should.
Once the clearing was done, we moved into site prep and grading. The goal was a firm, level surface that could handle the load of an RV without shifting or settling. We finished the compaction with a plate compactor to lock everything in tight. That smooth, uniform surface you end up with isn't just cosmetic - it's structural.
What we ended up with is a clean, compacted pad running the length of the backyard fence line with enough width to actually maneuver a rig in and out. The pool area on the other side stayed completely untouched. Working in tight residential spaces like this takes patience and the right equipment - too big a machine and you're causing more problems than you're solving.
This is one of those jobs where the real value is in what you gain - actual usable square footage on a property you already own. Whether it's RV parking, extra vehicle storage, or just better access around the house, proper land clearing and grading is how you get there.
