Why Proper Base Prep is the Key to Lasting Asphalt Patch Work

A lot of paving contractors skip straight to laying asphalt. It's faster, it looks done, and most property owners won't know the difference - at first. But here's the thing: if the base underneath is soft, unstable, or compromised, that fresh patch is going to fail. It's not a matter of if. It's when.

That's exactly why we don't cut corners on prep. Before any asphalt goes down, we dig out the damaged material and assess what's underneath. What you're left with is exposed aggregate and a clean, stable sub-base - the kind of foundation that actually holds up under traffic and load. No shortcuts, no rushing it.

Once the base is right, the patch goes down properly. The difference is obvious in the finished surface - tight, dense, and smooth from edge to edge. A good patch should blend into the surrounding pavement and hold its shape for years, not just months. That only happens when the groundwork is done right.

This is what patch paving is supposed to look like. We take it seriously because a patch that fails means you're paying twice - once for the quick fix and again when it cracks, heaves, or crumbles under normal use. Getting it right the first time is always the better value.
